What Is a UL Listing?

Underwriters Laboratories Inc. is an independent product safety certification organization. It is a non-profit US organization with a high reputation for independent assurance of equipment or product quality. It was established in 1894. With its headquarters in Northbrook, Illinois, it serves 98 countries. The products that are checked for safety are certified and belong to UL listing.
What UL does
UL develops standards and test procedures for products, materials, components, assemblies, tools and equipment, chiefly dealing with product safety. UL also evaluates and certifies the efficiency of a company's business processes through its management system registration programs. In addition to these, UL also analyzes drinking and other clean water samples and evaluates products for environmental sustainability through its subsidiary, UL environment.
UL listing
UL listing is prepared after identifying those products that satisfy UL standards, which encompass UL's extensive safety research, scientific expertise and uncompromising focus on quality. It has developed over a thousand standards.
UL marks and labels
There are several types of UL marks, each with its own specific meaning. The only way to determine if a product meets these standards is to look for the UL mark on the product itself. The UL mark on a product means that it has been tested, and representative samples of that product have been evaluated and determined to meet UL requirements.
