About UL

Headquartered in Northbrook, Illinois, UL started offering product safety and testing services in 1894. It now offers consulting, water analyses and testing services across a wide scope of specialties. It is one of the approved testing facilities authorized by the United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Services

UL offers many services, including safety manual creation and editing, safety standard preparation, workplace efficiency audits and consulting and a product rating service for consumers. When a customer sees a product with the UL Mark (a "UL" inside a circle), he or she can feel confident the product has undergone multiple phases of testing and safety protocols. One of the oldest services offered by UL relates to fire safety, with an emphasis on fire-proof doors.
